Around the House: January

-
In this first, quiet month I am:

~enjoying reading at a much slower pace

~seeing how much my Bible study, daily Bible reading, and other reading are fitting together. Some difficult, but necessary lessons.

~planning to share what I'm learning soon. At least portions of it.

~reconciling myself to the fact that I can't stop high school graduation or the ensuing departure for college. I might have cried when reading college acceptance letters.

~watching the Lord unfurl my girl's wings in preparation for her flight from the nest.

~curious to know what the empty nest will feel like, and trying hard not to think about it.

~happy for seasonable weather, at long last!

~savoring the empty spaces left behind by Christmas decorations tucked away again.

~revamping my homekeeping schedule, marveling at how much better it works for me, and wondering why it's taken me so long. 

 ~learning the importance of balance in all things.

 ~accepting the necessary place quiet has in my life.  Amy Carmichael's words resonate in my soul: "I do not think there is anything from the beginning of our Christian life to the end, that is so keenly attacked as our quiet with God, for it is in quietness that we are fed." 

~grateful for the Lord's provision.
~hoping not so much time will pass before I hit "publish" again

I'll say it: we could be sisters. So much of what you write resonates deeply in my own heart, it's uncanny! I also find myself at a similar point in life as you - anticipating the empty nest. So much change happening this year - I'll keep you in my prayers!

Ah, yes...balance! Your list is beautiful my friend...it gives a window into your heart. Hang in there with the graduation and next stage of life for your young lady and yourselves...one step at a time! Don't rush ahead with your emotions to the fall...enjoy these days...one by one. A Quiet Life

What I Learned During My Social Media Vacation

With the Holy Spirit's prompting - and the grace of God abounding - I gave up Facebook and Twitter during December so that I could focus on the Incarnation and prepare my heart for Christmas. I didn't think I devoted an inordinate amount of time to social media; however, when I announced my intention to my girl and her response was something akin to "Good. You need to given them up.", I knew I needed the break more than I cared to admit. I had already stopped posting anything in this little spot for the final months of 2013. Limited blogging at Out of the Ordinary, permanently paring down my feed reader to precious few, and saying no to Facebook and Twitter has taught me some valuable lessons. ~ Absence does not necessarily make the heart grow fonder.
